As time passes, many women see their breasts slowly drooping, losing shape and their firm, full appearance and feel. This can occur after pregnancy, breastfeeding, changes in weight, age, the effects of gravity, and due to the natural loss of skin elasticity. Regaining a more youthful, perky breast profile enhances not only a woman’s shape, but can restore feelings of self-confidence.
Breast Lift Surgery: Is It Right for You?
At Athenix, our surgeons work individually with each patient. We want to understand what appearance you want for your breasts, so that we can tailor your breast lift in Portland to achieve that outcome. If you are tired of seeing saggy, droopy or deflated-looking breasts, a breast lift could be the right procedure for you.
A breast lift is the procedure that resolves several undesirable breast problems, including:
- Sagging or pendulous breasts
- Loss of volume
- Loss of firmness
- Downwards facing areolas
- Nipples low on breast tissue
- A hollowed appearance at top of breast
- Breasts that have shrunken in size, appearing deflated
- Breasts that have drooped due to time and aging
Is it Time to Restore Your Breasts?
The breast lift procedure involves removing any excess skin, and tightening and lifting the breast tissue. A breast lift will not alter the actual size of the breasts, but many women choose to have both a breast lift and breast augmentation for more volume. Your Athenix surgeon will carefully take measurements and discuss the various procedures to determine which approach will achieve the best results. Take a look at the illustration below to learn more about various lifts and incision placements.

What to Expect from a Breast Lift
Your procedure takes a few hours to perform. You will be comfortable, as the surgery is performed under general anesthesia in our state-of-the-art surgical facility located at our Athenix out-patient clinic in Beaverton, with easy access from Portland and the surrounding communities. Recovery time typically takes a few days, or up to a week before you can return to work and daily activities. The first step to your restored youthful breasts is scheduling a complimentary consultation to discuss your wishes, and to have your breasts evaluated. Transform your Breasts
Regain the youthful, perky shape of the past with breast lift surgery. Restoring a more beautiful profile can help you feel confident about your breasts after they have lost their shape or fullness, or you have genetic factors that left you with loose, pendulous breasts that make you unhappy. At Athenix, our professional board-certified plastic surgeons stay ahead of the curve in the most advanced procedures, and always seek out less invasive procedures.
The transformation from saggy, baggy, and loose to firm, full, and youthful is a significant change, and our Portland patients tell us that they got far more than they expected. They feel more confident, as they are no longer hiding saggy breasts, but can wear clothing styles that reveal more youthful looking breasts, including tops or dresses with plunging necklines and bikini tops.
Youthful, Feminine Beauty Restored
If your breasts are sagging, droopy, or have radically changed after pregnancy, breastfeeding or significant weight loss, you probably dream of the time when your breasts looked young, perky, and full. A breast lift gives you the opportunity to restore your breasts to a more youthful appearance, higher on your chest, with a more rounded, firm appearance.
The Effects of Age and Gravity
As we age, skin loses some of its elasticity. You may have taken care of your breasts, consistently worn a supporting bra, and avoided the sun. Even then, the skin and muscular structure that supports your breasts stretches, leaving you with breasts that have changed in shape and location, often with the nipple now pointing downwards, and a large, unattractive crease beneath the breast tissue. A breast lift can turn back the clock, resolving the effects of aging skin and the pull of gravity.
Are you a Candidate for a Breast Lift?
At Athenix, we are focused on patient health and safety as a primary concern. Part of our process is to fully review and evaluate your health to determine if you are a candidate for surgery. Generally, you could be a candidate if you are at a stable, healthy weight, and are in good general health. Once your health history has been reviewed, we can move forward to discuss your personal goals about the appearance of your breasts.
Your breast lift will be a customized procedure, as there is never a cookie-cutter approach. Every detail of your surgery will be discussed with you so you know what to expect with regard to the final outcome, your recovery time, and any other concerns. We care about our patients as individuals – and we carefully select surgeons who are at forefront in their profession and who have exhibited outstanding skill and artistry in performing breast lifts and other body sculpting surgical techniques.
Your Recovery: The Facts
As with any surgery, you need to carefully plan for your recovery. A breast lift in Portland will be performed under general anesthesia in most cases, or local anesthesia along with intravenous sedation. The entire surgery will require about one to two hours to complete, based upon the type of surgery needed, and whether you have chosen a breast augmentation in conjunction with the lift. After surgery is complete, you will be able to return home, but will need to be driven by another person. Your breasts will be bandaged or covered with a surgical bra to support and compress the tissue and surgical sites. The support is vital, as you have incisions that need to heal, as well as for your own comfort.
Rest and Heal
You will experience some level of swelling after surgery, and any pain is easily managed with prescription medication. Generally, within a few days, only over-the-counter painkillers will be needed to feel comfortable. You will be able to walk around at home the same day of surgery, it is important that you keep the area stable, and avoid raising your arms or any lifting. You will need to sleep on your back for several weeks. If this is not your normal sleeping position, you will need place pillows so that you do not turn on your side while sleeping.
Back to Work
Typically, patients can resume normal daily activities and return to work within the first week. For exercise, take walks only. The upper body should not be exercised or stressed for the first two to six weeks, depending upon the procedure performed. After about two months, you can return to wearing underwire bras, and over the next months, the surgical incision site will fade in color. The incisions are hidden as much as possible, and won’t be visible when wearing clothing. Every issue of concern will be discussed with you prior to surgery, and we will be carefully monitoring your progress after surgery.
