Well, I started three and a half years ago at 300 pounds.
I tried to kill myself, I tried starving myself, I tried pills, I literally tried everything… but I just could not get my stuff together. In the very beginning, I was just so sick and tired of being sick and tired, and I was desperate. I joined Weight Watchers.
I lost roughly 100 pounds on my own with continued diet and exercise, but I plateaued for about a year and a half. I was stuck. I was working out but my body was used to [my routine].
I was trying to figure out my body when I decided to have a [breast] lift and augmentation done, and then became interested in a tummy tuck. My Athenix physician suggested getting the gastric balloon first and then a tummy tuck afterwards, so all my extra skin would be removed after I hit my goal weight.
I researched the balloon and I liked it because it was not permanent and it did not require a lengthy recovery period.
I have 2 kids at home and I am by myself all week with them and cannot afford to be down for a long time. I also do not qualify for any other gastric surgery due to the higher BMI requirements.
The [balloon] was also so attractive because my goal was to lose as much as possible, roughly 60 pounds, and then just keep it off and get my tummy tuck.
I got the balloon placed in June and I went from 211 to 186 in less than 90 days.
So far the balloon has been very beneficial in my weight loss and ensuring that I do not overeat. It was a great decision for me.
