What is a Mommy Makeover?

If you’ve been pregnant and given birth, you know the amazing joys that come from the experience. But you likely also know the toll that pregnancy and having children can take on your body. When you’ve got a newborn baby, the only priorities are the health of you and your baby. As you find yourself a year or so out from that childbirth, you may begin to wonder if you’re ever going to get your ‘old’ body back. The desire to enhance parts of your body after pregnancies and childbirth is exactly what mommy makeovers are designed to do. And just like no 2 children are exactly alike, neither are any 2 mommy makeovers. Our team customizes the procedures of a mommy makeover, and techniques used, to ensure your problem areas are targeted, and your expectations are met. Here is an overview of the procedures that may be a part of a mommy makeover.

Components of a mommy makeover: Breasts

There are a range of procedures that we pick from when we’re working with you to design your ideal mommy makeover. One primary area women ask for improvements in, is their breasts. Although every mommy makeover is tailor-made, most women do include a breast procedure in their mommy makeover.

Breast lift

During pregnancy, your breasts can grow in size significantly, and these changes can last or increase if you breastfeed. Some women find that as they lose weight after childbirth, especially in their breasts, they lose the lifted shape they once had. A breast lift can help with this and give you a more perky, youthful silhouette.

Breast augmentation

Many women find that their breast size decreases after the increase they have during pregnancy. In addition to a breast lift, sometimes a breast augmentation is a good option in these cases. We can use breast implants of any size, to create a natural, lifted, fuller look to the breasts. A breast augmentation can be done either as the only breast procedure in a mommy makeover, or in conjunction with a breast lift.

Breast reduction

While some women want a breast augmentation after their pregnancies, at the other end of the spectrum are women who feel their breast size is too large. Since breast size can increase significantly during pregnancy, this is a regular complaint we hear. Larger breasts can cause more back pain, poor posture, and discomfort from bra straps. We are able to do a breast reduction as part of a customizable mommy makeover.

Components of a mommy makeover: Tummy area

With pregnancy, your uterus grows to the size of a watermelon. The shape of your midsection changes drastically, and your organs are pushed around to make room for your growing baby. Your skin expands, and so does your blood volume. These extreme changes to your tummy area mean it’s very hard for many women to get back to their ‘pre-baby’ body, even with diet and exercise. Here are the procedures we offer for cosmetic improvements of your tummy area:

Tummy tuck

A tummy tuck can treat loose skin, extra fat, and even muscles. Although our skin has elasticity, the amount of growth in your tummy area during pregnancy means that often the skin gets stretched too much to return to its original level of tightness. Additionally, we all lose elasticity in our skin as we get older. During a tummy tuck we can also remove excess fat that is almost impossible to target with exercise, especially if we combine the tummy tuck with liposuction. The final component we can improve with a tummy tuck is your muscle structure. While most people recognize loose skin and excess fat after pregnancy, there can also be changes to your muscles. While you’re pregnant, your growing baby needs so much room that your stomach muscles can end up becoming separated. Our tummy tuck procedure allows for a tightening of those rectus abdominis muscles which results in a more smooth, toned appearance.

Abdominal liposuction

Liposuction is the best way for us to remove stubborn areas of excess fat. This procedure is highly customizable, allowing us to remove larger areas of fat, or small pockets of trouble spots. During liposuction, we use new and innovative equipment that lets our surgeons remove fat gently and effectively. The older methods of liposuction required aggressive suctioning and sharper instruments. This often resulted in more bruising and longer recovery time. The procedures in our mommy makeovers are designed to give you as quick a recovery period as possible.

Components of a mommy makeover: Other

Breasts and the tummy area are the most commonly requested areas for improvement in mommy makeovers, but we have multiple other treatments that are often used for customization.

Butt lift

It is common for women to feel as though their butt is drooping more after pregnancy, even if they lose their baby weight. This can be caused by gravity and aging, and unfortunately is a very difficult area to target with exercise. We can combine a butt procedure like the Brazilian butt lift into your mommy makeover, if this is an area you want to focus on for improving your overall body shape.

Liposuction of other areas

Although many moms want liposuction in their abdominal area, there are multiple other areas that are often good choices for liposuction during a mommy makeover. Hip and thigh liposuction are 2 procedures we sometimes customize into the mommy makeover package. There are many ways for us to customize the liposuction options so the procedure is tailored to meet your specific goals.

Facial fillers

Some moms have other areas of their body they want to include in their mommy makeover, and one of these is the face. Facial fillers can be a good option for women who feel they look tired, or have hollow or sagging areas of their face. These are natural changes we go through as we age, and using procedures like facial fillers or other injectables, can help. When we meet with someone about a mommy makeover, we make sure to ask detailed questions about what areas she’d like improvements in. Even though the face is not traditionally associated with a mommy makeover, our treatments are so customized and tailor-made for each woman, that we are happy to include facial enhancements as well.

Who is a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures that we offer to many people. These procedures can be put together in a way that best fits each mom. While every case is different, here are a few characteristics we look for in mommy makeover candidates:

  • In good overall health
  • Done having children
  • At least one year out from your last pregnancy
  • Ideal candidates are close to a weight they are happy with, since the procedures in a mommy makeover are best for targeting trouble areas, but not for significant overall weight loss
  • Have reasonable expectations for the recovery and results

If you are done having children and are interested in learning how a highly customized mommy makeover can improve your confidence and body shape, get in touch with us. We’re happy to help you understand what mommy makeover procedures might be best for the cosmetic improvements you want to see.
