Your Recovery Process

Immediately After & Day of

After the breast reduction surgery, you will be taken to a recovery room, where you will be monitored by medical staff. You will likely experience some pain, swelling, and discomfort in the chest area; you will be given pain medication and instructions on how to care for your incisions and bandages.

Following Days

You’ll need to rest and avoid strenuous activity for the first few days after surgery. While you may experience bruising and swelling, this can be managed with ice packs and pain medication. You’ll also wear a surgical bra or compression garment to support your breasts and help reduce swelling.

One Week

You will have a follow-up appointment with your Athēnix surgeon to check your healing progress and remove any stitches or drains. Remember that you may be able to return to light activities but should still avoid anything too strenuous.

Two Weeks

Continue avoiding heavy lifting or strenuous exercise, although you may be able to return to work and resume some normal activities. Your breasts may still be swollen and tender, but should start to feel more comfortable.

Six Weeks

You can resume most normal activities, including exercise and lifting while avoiding activities that strain the chest area too much. At this point, your breasts should start to settle into their new shape and size.

Three Months

Your breasts should be fully healed, and any swelling or discomfort should be gone. While you may notice some scarring, this should fade over time.
