Breast Reduction

Los Angeles Office

150 East Colorado Blvd, Suite 102
Pasadena, CA 91105

Disproportionately large, heavy breasts can lead to health problems, detract from a graceful appearance, and lower a woman’s feelings of self-esteem. Large breasts are always in the way and interfere with daily activities, and limit clothing options. Women with overly large breasts may feel self-conscious due to the unwanted attention their large breasts can attract.

Breast reduction at Athenix can help resolve these problems. Our skilled, board-certified plastic surgeons can custom tailor a procedure specifically to your unique anatomy, to lift, lighten, and reshape your breasts. This procedure can alleviate discomfort, enhance your silhouette, and increase your confidence. When deemed medically necessary, a breast reduction could even be covered by health insurance.

What Breast Reduction Surgery Can Do for You

If you have been over-endowed by nature and living with the complications most of your life, breast reduction could change your life for the better. Our board-certified plastic surgeons can safely perform a custom-tailored procedure, removing excess fat, skin, and tissue, to reduce the size of your breasts. This surgery can make your breasts higher, firmer, and shapelier, as well as smaller.

For women with excessively large breasts, breast reduction can have many benefits, including:

  • Relief from pain and discomfort: Large, heavy breasts can affect your posture and cause pain and discomfort in the neck, back, and shoulders. Heavy breasts pulling on your bra straps can leave deep indentations in your shoulders. Many large breasted women suffer skin irritation and rashes underneath their breasts. Breast reduction surgery can help eliminate these physical problems.
  • Less limitation on your activities: Very large breasts can get in the way and make certain activities awkward or painful. They can prevent a woman from participating in sports, and even interfere with normal, daily activities. Breast reduction surgery can reduce the limitations in life caused by overly large breasts.
  • More attractive appearance: Breast reduction surgery can lighten, lift, and restore fullness and firmness to the breasts. If your breasts are too large for the rest of your body, reducing their size can enhance the symmetry of your curves and give you a more youthful, graceful profile.
  • Higher self-esteem: Just as too-small breasts can reduce a woman’s self-confidence, so can breasts that a woman feels are too large for her body. Overly large breasts, out of proportion with the rest of the body, can make it difficult to find clothes that fit in the styles you like. Large breasts have the added disadvantage of attracting unwanted attention, and that can make a woman feel self-conscious, detract from her professional image, and lower her self-esteem. If your breasts are larger than you want them to be, breast reduction surgery can make a dramatic difference in how you feel about yourself and your appearance.

The Procedure

The first step to achieve lighter, higher breasts and a more graceful appearance is to schedule a free consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in our state-of-the-art Pasadena facility. This is a one-on-one consultation in which a skilled physician will evaluate your breasts and anatomy and discuss your treatment goals and concerns.

If you have fatty breasts that do not sag and only need minor to moderate reduction, VASER® liposuction alone might be sufficient to reduce your breasts. This is a newer type of liposuction using advanced technology that is much gentler and less invasive than traditional liposuction. Liposuction is only appropriate in a select few breast reduction cases.

Our Professional Process

We will take measurements and photos and conduct a complete review of your medical history. No surgical procedure is completely risk-free. If you have any health concerns, please bring them to our attention to ensure that you are a good candidate for surgery. At Athenix, our top priority is your safety and creating beautiful results.

When your breast reduction procedure is performed, your board-certified cosmetic surgeon will lift, reshape, and reduce the size of your breasts by removing excess fat, breast tissue, and skin through incisions made on the undersides of your breasts. It is performed as an outpatient procedure, typically with few complications. Your case is unique, and only a conversation with our professionals can answer all of your questions, and we offer a free consultation to help you learn more about breast reduction surgery.

What to Expect after Breast Reduction Surgery

You may have some pain when the anesthesia wears off after surgery, which will be controlled with pain medication prescribed by your physician. You can expect some swelling, as with any surgery, but this diminish as you heal. Walking and moving around as soon as possible after surgery can help minimize swelling and aid in the healing process. You will need to avoid stretching, reaching, or putting stress on your bust area so that your incisions heal properly, so plan on having someone help you, particularly for the first few days.

Downtime After Breast Reduction Surgery

Downtime after your breast reduction can vary, depending on the patient and the extent of procedure that was performed. You should plan to recover for a minimum of one week before returning to work or resuming your normal activities. You must avoid any lifting or stress on the upper body, and get plenty of rest during this time. Talk to your surgeon about when you can resume your normal exercise routine, but initially, all strenuous activity must be avoided for the full time period as prescribed by your surgeon.

Sleeping with your torso elevated can relieve pressure on the surgical area and help reduce pain and swelling. This may be accomplished by sleeping in a recliner, using a wedge pillow, or placing several pillows under your head and upper back. To prevent rolling over onto your stomach in your sleep, place a pillow under your knees and pillows alongside your body.
