Breast Reduction in Fresno

Athenix

Overlarge, heavy breasts can cause pain and discomfort in the back, neck, and shoulders, interfere with your daily activities, and detract from the overall symmetry of the body. Breast reduction in Fresno performed at Athenix creates a more attractive, balanced shape, relieve the pain and discomfort associated with heavy breasts, and gives you a more youthful, graceful appearance.

Breast Reduction Surgery: The Procedure

In your breast reduction procedure, your plastic surgeon will remove excess fat, breast tissue, and skin through incisions on the undersides of both breasts to lift, reshape, and reduce the size of the breasts. This is an outpatient procedure that typically has few complications.

In some select cases, liposuction alone may be sufficient for breast reduction. This is only an option for women with fatty breasts who need minor or moderate reduction and have no sagging or drooping to correct.

Get a One-on-One Consultation

The first step is a one-on-one consultation with a physician who will evaluate your breasts and discuss your concerns to determine the best method to reduce your breasts and the results you can expect to achieve in this surgical procedure. You will also speak with our staff in detail so we can better understand what you want in your ideal breast size, and any other questions or concerns you may have about the procedure.

Measurements and photos will be taken during this time and a complete review of your medical history will be conducted. Any overall health concerns should be brought to our attention to ensure you are a good candidate for surgery, as no surgical procedure is completely without risk. Your safety and results are always our primary concern. It guides all of the decisions we make, the technologies we use, and the treatments we provide.

Reasons to Have Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery is done to reduce the weight and size and improve the shape and firmness of the breasts. You may decide to have this procedure for any of several reasons, including:

  • Relief from physical pain and discomfort: Large, heavy breasts can cause posture problems, skin irritation, and neck, back, and shoulder pain. The pull of heavy breasts can cause bra straps to leave deep, unattractive indentations in the shoulders. Breast reduction surgery typically resolves these problems.
  • Removing limitations on your activities: Some physical activities can be painful or awkward for women with large, heavy breasts. A breast reduction can reduce the limitations on sports participation, and on simply performing normal daily activities in comfort.
  • Enhancing your appearance: This procedure can give your body a more balanced appearance. Large breasts that are out of proportion with your weight and height make clothing choices difficult. The unwanted attention large breasts attract can make a woman feel self-conscious and unhappy. A breast reduction can give you more attractively proportioned breasts and a sleeker body contour. It can also lighten, lift, and restore fullness and firmness to the breasts.

After Your Breast Reduction Surgery

After your breast reduction surgery, you will be instructed to avoid heavy lifting and get plenty of rest after your breast reduction procedure. Downtime for a breast reduction varies, but you should plan for at least a week before going back to work or resuming your normal activities.

After the anesthesia wears off, you may experience some pain, which will be controlled with medication. As with all surgeries, you can expect some swelling, but it may not be evident as your breasts will be higher and smaller than they were prior to surgery. Although it is important to avoid strenuous activities for the time period prescribed by your board-certified cosmetic surgeon, walking and moving around as soon as possible after the surgery can help prevent blood clots and minimize swelling.

It may be recommended that you sleep in a recliner chair, on a wedge pillow, or with two or three pillows under your upper back and head to keep your torso elevated. This helps handle the swelling and pain and relieves pressure on the surgical area. You may also wish to place a pillow under your knees and pillows alongside your body to help prevent rolling over in your sleep.

If you have questions and would like to know whether breast reduction is right for you, call us today to set up a complimentary consultation at our Fresno office.
