What is a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift, or thighplasty, surgically reshapes and tones the thighs by removing excess skin and fat. A thigh lift does not specifically address cellulite or stretch marks. However, in most cases, stretch marks are located on the hanging skin, which is removed during your procedure, resulting in firmer, more sculpted thighs and a more youthful leg contour.

Is a Thigh Lift for You?

Candidates for a thigh lift may be experiencing some of the following issues:

  • Inner thighs rub together and cause uncomfortable chafing
  • Skin is constantly irritated or in a rash
  • You have lost significant weight and have sagging skin on your thighs
  • Skin elasticity is lost, and skin doesn’t bounce back when pinched

How it Works

The thigh lift procedure typically lasts a few hours and is conducted under general anesthesia within our advanced, onsite ambulatory surgical facility at Athēnix. Your surgeon will make incisions in strategic locations to minimize visible scarring using one of the following techniques based on your specific anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Inner thigh lift

This involves an incision in the groin crease, allowing access to the upper inner thigh area. It's suitable for addressing minor sagging.

Medial thigh lift

This incision extends from the groin crease down to the knee, enabling the removal of more excess skin and fat. It's ideal for moderate sagging.

Lateral thigh lift

For patients with sagging skin on the outer thigh, an incision is made along the outer hip or buttock area, addressing the excess tissue.

Your Recovery Process

Thigh lift recovery usually includes managing bruising, swelling, and discomfort, which can be effectively controlled with prescribed pain medication. Following post-operative instructions, wearing compression garments, and limiting physical activity during the initial weeks is essential. Patients can usually return to regular activities in about 4-6 weeks, with full results becoming apparent over time.

Smooth Results

A thigh lift procedure yields smoother, more contoured thighs by removing excess skin and fat. Patients can enjoy improved leg aesthetics, enhanced body proportions, and increased confidence in their clothing options. Initial results are visible after the swelling subsides, but final results continue to improve over several months as the tissues settle and heal.
